It seems like I’ve been recording my share of Pirate songs lately. My favorite Pirate song is probably “Steven the Pirate” by Steven Courtney.
Here’s a pic of Old Captain Jack Himself – Raven Locks Swaying in the Ocean Breeze…See the resemblance? Mmmmm, me neither.
When I was little, all I wanted to be was a musician. Sure, there were days I wanted to be an Astronaut or President or a Baseball Player, but I knew no matter what else I was doing, that I would make music. If you would have told the 9 year old Fred that on May 21st, 2011 at the age of 50 he would be part of a Guinness Book of World Records certified event promoted by a local radio station where they let him talk on the radio and play music, AND, not only that, but he would get to perform on stage, playing goofy songs he wrote, with incredibly talented (and limber) friends and family, AND, he would get to join the most popular kids band around as part of the Suitcase Musicians, AND would do it all with a group of dedicated, fun, talented, amazing friends who also happen to be his co-workers – I think the 9 year old Fred would have only had this response – BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!! Thank you family and friends, for making a little boys dreams come true!
Steven Courtney and I wrote 42 Monkeys the year we both turned 42. We have both recorded it several times. It’s a fun song and kids and parents both seem to enjoy it. I generally get some Mom smiles when we sing, “42 Monkeys tried to steal my mom. Tried to take her to the Monkey prom!” Kids just like the word Monkey. It’s a fun word to sing and to say.
